Gelon in-shell prismatic laser pre-spot welding station
Gelon's in-shell station prepares prismatic cells for lid welding. It reads barcodes, unloads trays, cleans the aluminium case and weld area, presses the lid, checks step and shoulder height, runs a short-circuit test, then tacks the lid with laser pre-spot welds and sorts rejects. It sits between core insertion and final lid seam welding on prismatic lines.
The station sequence
Gelon lists automatic barcode reading, tray unloading and empty tray stacking, dust removal from the aluminium case and cleaning of the weld area. Lid pressing, step detection, electrode shoulder height detection and a short-circuit test come before laser spot welding. NG sorting and tray unloading follow. The pre-spot welds hold the lid in place; the full perimeter seal is made on the next machine.
Some translated steps are vague: slot code scanning, slot cleaning and flip labels appear without diagrams. Ask the supplier which physical part each one acts on and in what order. Cell size, laser power, test voltage, allowed height difference and takt are not listed, so base the quotation on your cell drawing and a station-by-station specification.

Catalogue values apply to the configuration and test method the maker states. Ask for the values that apply to your configuration.

Datums for lid pressing and height checks
Lid pressing and shoulder height checks only mean something against defined cell geometry. Ask for the reference surfaces, measuring points, fixture compliance and the accepted height window, along with the resolution and accuracy of each check. In the demonstration, a misplaced lid and an out-of-window core should both be caught before any tack weld.
Describe the incoming tray, part orientation and the force your lid and core can take. Ask whether pressing simply locates the lid or also measures force, and what the machine does if the lid does not reach position. Gelon gives no pressing force limit and no inspection results on a cell like yours.

Cleaning, short test and part tracking
Case dust removal and weld area cleaning need a defined cleanliness target and a way to remove waste. Ask what gets removed, how particles are collected and what keeps debris out of the cell. The page names the cleaning step without a particle limit.
Specify the short-circuit test contact points, voltage, dwell and pass threshold, then watch a known bad cell go down the NG route. The barcode record should link each cell to its height checks, electrical result and pre-spot recipe; ask separately for any MES link. For transfer to seam welding, define how the tacked lid is protected and how a stopped or rejected cell is kept from moving on unnoticed.
The full lid-to-case seam is welded afterwards on a machine such as the Gelon prismatic lid-to-case laser welder.
Cores reach this station from a stacker such as the Gelon double-station CCD stacker.

Questions that change the purchase
| Decision | What the catalogue says | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Are the lid and core datums unambiguous? | The page names pressing, step detection and shoulder height detection without limits. | Approve measuring positions, tolerances and failed-part examples. |
| What do the translated slot operations mean? | The page lists slot scanning, slot cleaning and flip labels without diagrams. | Request a marked station drawing before fixing the scope. |
| Can the next welder trust the transferred part? | The page lists barcode reading, short-circuit testing, pre-spot welding and NG sorting. | Witness cell-linked records and controlled transfer of good and rejected parts. |
