Gelon prismatic cell lid-to-case laser welding machine
Gelon's laser welder seals the lid of a prismatic cell to its case once the core is inside and the lid has been tacked with pre-spot welds. After the seam weld it trims weld nuggets and runs a weld quality inspection. It sits on prismatic assembly lines before electrolyte filling, with laser and leak test details agreed per cell.
What arrives and what happens
Gelon puts this step after core insertion and lid pre-spot welding. The machine laser welds the lid to the case, trims weld nuggets and inspects weld quality. The seam made here is the final closure; the earlier tack welds only hold the lid in position.
Accepted case sizes, lid alloy, seam width, laser source, rated power and cycle time are not listed, and the product photo gives no figures. Send your joint drawing, surface condition and incoming lid position requirements with the inquiry. Ask which clamping, shielding gas, cleaning and transfer items are part of the quoted machine.

Seam weld and trimming as two checks
The seam has to meet your cell design all the way round the lid. Ask Gelon to explain the seam path, how corners are handled, the overlap at start and finish, and the gap allowed before welding. No material recipe is published. Agree how penetration and joint integrity will be shown on real cases, with settings developed for cells rather than taken from module busbar work.
Trimming is listed without its tool, removal allowance or debris handling. Define the finished surface you accept and how removed particles are contained. Check internal integrity as well as appearance, and make sure trimming leaves any weld defect visible to the agreed inspection.

What the weld inspection checks
Gelon mentions weld quality inspection without saying whether it is visual, dimensional, based on process signals or by destructive sampling. Ask for the method, decision limits, recorded data and reject response. Where you can, supply defined bad samples for acceptance and confirm the station catches them.
Leak testing is a separate matter. The page names no leak tester, test medium, pressure or allowed leak rate. If the case must be proven sealed before electrolyte filling or another later step, state the test you need and agree whether this machine or another station runs it. Cell identity should follow each part through welding, trimming, inspection and reject handling.

Questions that change the purchase
| Decision | What the catalogue says | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| What must the incoming lid position satisfy? | The page places the machine after lid pre-spot welding. | Approve the incoming joint gap, clamping datum and case drawing. |
| What does trimming remove? | The page lists weld nugget trimming without a method or debris figure. | Set the finished surface, removal allowance and particle control. |
| Is leak testing included? | The page lists weld quality inspection and no leak test. | Define the leak requirement and the station that runs it. |
