Gelon pneumatic cylindrical negative-tab bottom spot welder
Gelon's pneumatic single-point welder joins the nickel negative tab of a cylindrical core to the bottom of its can, reaching down the centre with a needle 2 mm in diameter and 180 mm long. It welds thicknesses of 0.03–0.25 mm, runs on 220 V/50 Hz and weighs 45 kg. It fits small cylindrical cell assembly after winding and case insertion.
A long needle for an internal joint
Gelon names the nickel negative tab and the bottom of the cylindrical can as the two parts joined. A needle 2 mm in diameter and 180 mm long reaches inside the can. A microcontroller runs the cycle. Listed welding thickness is 0.03–0.25 mm, the supply is 220 V/50 Hz, maximum power is 10 kW, mass is 45 kg and the unit measures 305 ×505 ×490 mm.
Ask whether the thickness range covers one tab or the whole joint, and request the can alloy, supported can sizes, pulse settings and electrode pressure. Reaching the joint also depends on support, tab position and clearance down the core. Send a section drawing of your core, tab and can so Gelon can confirm the fit.

What the 0–99 A entry means
The table lists welding current as 0–99 A, without a waveform, measuring point or explanation of the controller scale. Ask Gelon whether this is a current in amperes at the joint or a setting on the controller. The 10 kW maximum power also needs explaining as peak or continuous load. Request the electrical and weld parameter definitions for the controller you will receive.
Send the tab material, thickness, overlap and the state of the can bottom, then agree mechanical and electrical acceptance for the joint. Gelon gives no strength, resistance or defect detection results. Test joints made inside real cans with the real access and support, alongside any flat test pieces. Include needle contact condition and wear in the qualified recipe.

Check the cell after the needle comes out
Define insertion depth, fixture datums and the force the core and tab can take. Ask how a mispositioned part is stopped before it welds and which interlocks are fitted, since no position or quality sensing is listed. A completed pulse still needs a joint check to confirm the connection.
Watch a series of joints, a known bad part and recovery from an interrupted cycle. Inspect each cell for joint integrity and for any damage after the needle is withdrawn. Ask for needle replacement intervals, maintenance access and air requirements. Gelon gives no production rate, so count accepted cells over the full manual sequence.
Cores reach this welder from a winder such as the Gelon pedal-operated jelly-roll winder. Gelon's profile lists the grooving machine that follows, and joint resistance can be checked as the cell measurement page explains; the page on factory and site acceptance covers strength tests.

Questions that change the purchase
| Decision | What the catalogue says | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Can the needle reach and support the intended joint? | The page lists a 2 ×180 mm needle with no can size or fixture limits. | Approve a core, tab and can section and an insertion trial. |
| What does 0–99 A measure? | The page gives the current entry without a waveform or measuring point. | Get controller and electrical parameter documents. |
| What proves the internal connection? | The page lists no strength, resistance or detection result. | Test real internal joints and check cells after needle withdrawal. |
