Gelon pedal-operated laboratory cylindrical jelly-roll winder

Gelon's desktop winder rolls electrodes and separator into cylindrical jelly rolls by hand-fed laboratory work. It has a 4 mm by 125 mm shaft, speed from 0 to 250 rpm in either direction, two foot pedals and a 100 W motor. Gelon lists 18650, 26650, 32650 and 21700 formats. It suits labs building a few cylindrical cells at a time.

Shaft, speed and pedals

Gelon lists 100 W of power, winding speed adjustable from 0 to 250 rpm, a shaft 4 mm in outside diameter and 125 mm long, and clockwise or counterclockwise rotation. The main unit ships with two pedals and a power cord. Gelon names 18650, 26650, 32650 and 21700 laboratory formats; ask which shafts or fixtures come for each.

Electrode and separator width, thickness, strip length, tension method and alignment tolerance are not given. Usable winding width on the 125 mm shaft also needs confirming, together with how the core comes off, on your jelly roll drawing. This model winds only: taping and unloading are done by hand.

BUYER NOTES

How the operator starts and tensions the strip

Send the electrode and separator build, widths, overhang and core drawing. Agree loading aids, the start datum, how the strip is held and how the operator handles it. Speed control sets how fast the shaft turns; tension comes from guides and the operator. Ask which guides and tension parts are supplied.

Check a series of cores for registration and separator coverage after they come off the shaft. Use the direction switch only as set out in the written procedure for your build. Gelon gives no output rate or quality result, so compare how repeatably you can make good cores, preparation and unloading included.

BUYER NOTES

Stopping, core removal and format setup

Ask what each pedal does and how the machine responds to release, interruption and restart. Pedal functions and safety interlocks are not described. Get the guarding, access and electrical specification before installing. A hand-guided strip path needs a clear written procedure from Gelon.

Define the removable shaft or extraction tool, the finished core shape and tab orientation if needed. Watch a full build and a deliberately interrupted core. For each format you plan to wind, list the shafts or fixtures included and the first-off checks. At handover you should have the tooling and a repeatable loading and removal method for every format you bought.

Wound cores go on to the Gelon negative-tab bottom welder, and the page on factory and site acceptance shows how to check alignment on sample cores.
