Gelon laboratory cylindrical case grooving machine

Gelon's grooving machine rolls the groove into cylindrical cell cans that later holds the cap and gasket. Groove depth adjusts from 1.2 to 2.0 mm and width runs 1.1–1.5 mm, with custom widths on request, on 0.5–0.8 MPa air. Gelon aims it at laboratories, teaching and small-batch cylindrical cell building.

Depth, width and accuracy entries

Gelon lists an adjustable groove depth of 1.2–2.0 mm, a groove width of 1.1–1.5 mm that can be custom designed, and compressed air at 0.5–0.8 MPa. Processing accuracy is printed as +0.1 mm, which reads as one-sided and has no datum. Ask which dimension it controls and whether the tolerance is one-sided or symmetric.

Supported can sizes, wall materials and thicknesses, groove height on the can, roller shape, speed and power are not listed. Request a section drawing of your groove and the forming tools Gelon will supply. If you need a custom width, list it in the quotation. Crimping and leak testing of the closed cell happen on later equipment.

BUYER NOTES

Trial on your own cans

Send the can alloy, wall condition and the state of the cell when it reaches grooving. Define the groove profile, its height on the can, case roundness and allowed local deformation. Gelon gives no forming results or inspection method, so set tool settings by trial on real cans.

Measure the groove after the can leaves the tooling, around the full circumference and over a run of parts. If the jelly roll is already inside, add your own checks for damage to it, since the page says nothing about grooving loaded cells.

BUYER NOTES

Fit to the cap and crimp that follow

Agree fixture loading, supports, roller replacement and format change parts. Gelon lists no automatic loading or production rate, so compare machines on the full manual cycle and first-off setup. Under the supplier procedure, feed in a misplaced part and stop a cycle midway to see rejection and recovery.

Measure the grooved can against your gasket, cap and crimp drawing, and decide which closure and leak tests you will run later in the line. Ask for electrical and air flow figures, guarding and the maintenance scope. Accept the machine when it gives a groove that your closing step can use, part after part.

Grooving follows bottom welding on a machine such as the Gelon negative-tab bottom welder, and the acceptance test planning page sets out how to check groove depth on samples.

Still to confirm

  • Which can diameters, alloys and wall thicknesses the machine supports.
  • What the +0.1 mm accuracy refers to and how it is measured.
  • Electrical supply, air flow and cycle time.
  • Whether grooving a can with the jelly roll inside affects the roll, on your cell.
