Gelon cylindrical tab and cap laser-joining turntable
Gelon's modular turntable laser-welds the tab to the cap of cylindrical cells and then closes the cap automatically. It is built for 18650 production and listed as compatible with 21700. Gelon gives at least 30 pieces per minute and a qualification rate of at least 99.8%, which places it on small cylindrical assembly lines.
Two cell formats, one turntable
The title names laser tab and cap welding. The description combines welding with automatic cap closing on a turntable and names 18650 production with 21700 compatibility. Reference dimensions are 1800 ×1200 ×1600 mm, the supply is 220 V/50 Hz with 3 kW listed power, and compressed gas must reach at least 0.6 MPa and 20 L/min. The 3 kW figure is electrical load; ask separately for the laser source and its optical power.
Tab alloy, thickness, stack, joint position and laser settings are not listed. The English text uses the phrase wiping tab, which is a loose translation, so ask for a diagram of the actual positioning and joining motion. Ask also whether cap closing means a final crimp and seal or only placement, and which parts and tools change between 18650 and 21700.

Pin down the rate and yield figures
Gelon lists equipment efficiency of at least 30 pieces per minute, a product qualification rate of at least 99.8% and equipment activation of at least 93%. The page gives no definition of activation, run length, incoming part condition or what counts as a qualified joint. Ask the supplier to define each before you use them in a line plan.
Agree sustained accepted output for one documented cell and tab build, counting loading, rejects and format setup. Set joint resistance, strength and the right inspection for your design as separate criteria. A full turn of the table tells you the cycle ran. The joint and cap position still have to be measured.

The finished cap and the reject path
Send the tab and cap drawing with tolerances, then ask how the fixtures hold the joint and locate the cap. Define the allowed movement, spatter and debris, and any inspection before sealing. No defect detection or part-linked data is listed, so request these by name in the quotation.
During the trial, force a bad joint and stop the turntable to see how rejection and recovery work. Check the laser guarding, access interlocks and utilities in the supplier documents. Format acceptance should include the changeover tools and a first-off check, then a repeat run whose results stay linked to the tested setup.
Welded caps are closed after electrolyte filling, for example with the Gelon glovebox filling module, and the page on factory and site acceptance covers checking weld quality. Closed cells then go to the first charge described on the formation and capacity grading page.

Questions that change the purchase
| Decision | What the catalogue says | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| What does wiping tab mean physically? | The page uses the term without describing the motion. | Approve a marked tab and cap sequence and joint drawing. |
| Is 21700 compatibility included in this supply? | The page names 21700 compatibility with no tooling or changeover list. | List format parts and witness both agreed configurations. |
| What makes the 99.8% claim meaningful? | The page gives the figure without a qualification test or run length. | Set inspection, duration and accepted-output counting. |
