Gelon 400 mm pilot coated-electrode slitting machine

Gelon's pilot slitter carries calendered positive or negative electrode through a blade group on a 400 mm roller. It takes copper foil of 6–30 µm, aluminium foil of 8–30 µm and electrodes 70–250 µm thick, and slits at up to 40 m/min. It suits pilot lines cutting coated rolls into strips.

Foil range, electrode range and speed

Gelon lists the substrate as copper foil at 6–30 µm or aluminium foil at 8–30 µm. The finished electrode, coating included, may be 70–250 µm thick. Quote both figures for your material, since the foil range applies to the collector and the larger range to the whole coated sheet. The roller surface is 400 mm wide and the slitting width range is 30–250 mm.

The mechanical operating speed is 50 m/min and the slitting speed is 0–40 m/min. The calendered electrode is loaded into the winding mechanism, and powered traction pulls it to the blade group. Roll diameters, tension range, blade type, lane count and the degree of automatic loading are not listed, so ask Gelon to state the handling scope in the quotation.

BUYER NOTES

Fix the strip width and lane plan first

The 30–250 mm slitting entry has no lane drawing, so it may mean the finished strip or another cut dimension. Send your incoming web and finished-strip drawing and ask the supplier to mark cutter positions, trim allowance and the number of strips. The usable coated width on the 400 mm roller should appear on that drawing too.

The catalogue gives no slit-width tolerance, burr height, coating delamination limit or particle limit. Set these from your next cell step and agree how and on which samples they are measured. Run trials on the copper and aluminium builds you actually plan to slit, because tooling that cuts one foil cleanly may need adjustment for the other.

BUYER NOTES

Judge the trial by the finished roll

Ask for unwind and rewind reel and core limits and the tension control that comes with the machine. Using your coated electrode, agree the roll alignment, roll build and winding tension you will accept. Check strip width and edge condition along the whole roll, through one stop and restart and over an agreed tooling-use interval. Gelon publishes no coating quality result at 40 m/min.

Cover waste removal, cleaning and safe blade access in the delivery scope. On a pilot line, setup, loading and changeover time shape real output, so include them in any supplier comparison. Request the utility schedule and the installation drawing, which the specification leaves out. A good demonstration ends with a traceable roll that meets your strip specification under load.
