Courage KRZ-B10 18650 insulation-pad applicator

The Courage KRZ-B10 places insulating paper or PVC pads on the positive or negative end of 18650 cells. Cells are hopper-loaded, pads are punched four at a time from a 100 mm roll, and Courage gives about 5500 pieces/hour. It sits between cell sorting and welding in pack preparation.

18650 cells, either end, paper or PVC pads

Courage lists pad application to the positive or the negative end of 18650 cells. Mark the end, orientation, terminal access and pad outline on your drawing. The model page covers 18650 only, so ask the factory in writing whether 21700 or any other size can run and what tooling that would take. Approve the finished cell end and pad clearance against your joining process.

Pads are insulating paper or PVC, fed from a 100 mm-wide roll with a maximum diameter of 380 mm on a 72–78 mm core. The roll sizes say nothing about pad thickness, adhesive, dielectric strength or flame rating. Send your material specification and a sample roll, and confirm the punch tooling and feed orientation that will ship with the machine.

BUYER NOTES

Hopper loading, four-pad punching and the real cell rate

The catalogue gives four pads per punch and approximately 5500 pieces/hour. An operator fills the hopper by hand, with about 450 cells loaded in two sections. Ask how many cells are served per cycle, how refilling works and whether cell orientation is checked. The punch count is a mechanical figure; your output is the number of cells leaving with a correctly placed, well-bonded pad.

The drive combines pneumatics and a stepper motor, and punching is pneumatic. Ask how the machine catches missing material, incomplete cuts, misplaced pads, double feeds and jams, since the page names no sensors for these. At acceptance, clear a fault and confirm that unchecked cells stay apart from finished ones. Count good cells over a run that includes normal refills.

BUYER NOTES

Placement checks, utilities and line position

Set limits for pad centring, clearance around the terminal, wrinkles, cuts, missing pads and adhesion after handling. Check that the pad leaves the contact and welding area clear. Dielectric performance comes from the pad material's own test data, so request it from your pad supplier. Plan a trial with your pads and decide whether you need camera inspection added.

Utilities are 220 V ±10% at 50 Hz and 0.4–0.6 MPa air, with about 2.2 kW total power. The machine measures 1200 ×830 ×1500 mm and weighs about 230 kg. Leave room in the layout for roll changes, hopper access and scrap removal. Ask what guarding, punch maintenance and spare consumables are included.

In a cylindrical pack line this applicator follows the Courage KRZ-A10 sorter and comes before welding on the Courage 8000A welders. Courage's profile lists both, and the page on factory and site acceptance shows how to check pad placement on sample cells.

Still to confirm

  • Whether any cell size other than 18650 can run, and with what tooling.
  • How the machine detects missing pads, incomplete cuts, double feeds and jams.
  • Pad thickness and adhesive range the punch and feed will accept.
  • Good-cell output with your pad roll over a run that includes refills.
