Automatic cylindrical electrode winding system
This TOB automatic winder makes cylindrical jelly rolls. It unwinds and tensions the cathode, anode and separator, guides the webs, winds, tapes the end, unloads and rejects cores that fail a short-circuit test. TOB markets it for 4680 tabless cells, while its table allows at most two tabs per electrode. Electrode widths run 40–68 mm.
Web sizes, roll sizes and the winding sequence
The feed table lists cathode widths of 40–66 mm, anode widths of 42–68 mm and separator widths of 44–70 mm. Electrodes are 0.1–0.2 mm thick and separator 0.015–0.030 mm. Electrode rolls go up to 400 mm OD and separator rolls up to 300 mm, all on 76.2 mm cores.
The sequence covers tension control, dust removal, web guiding and static removal on the separator. The machine winds, applies end tape, unloads, tests for short circuits and rejects faulty cores. TOB gives no model code, cycle time or table of finished core sizes, so ask for all three in the quotation.

Check what tabless means on this machine
The page title promotes 4680 tabless use, yet the operating conditions allow no more than two tabs on one electrode. A continuous-edge or multi-tab design may fall outside that limit, so ask TOB to state which electrode designs the machine handles.
Send an electrode drawing showing the bare edge, tab geometry and termination. Ask for a demonstration with that design, covering how the electrode enters the mandrel, is cut and leaves the winding station. Confirm whether edge forming, laser cutting or other operations are included or sold as separate machines.

Incoming rolls set the result
TOB asks for incoming rolls with slit-width error below ±0.05 mm, telescoping no more than ±1 mm and electrode camber below 0.3 mm per 1,000 mm, all tied to winding accuracy. These are limits your rolls must meet; the winder is not designed to correct rolls outside them.
Plan a trial with representative rolls and set targets for overlap, alignment, winding tightness, tension and core dimensions. Include start-up and a controlled stop, and inspect cores after unloading. Agree the short-circuit test method and how rejects are logged. TOB gives no measured alignment figure or yield, so these come from your trial.
The short-circuit rejection on this winder is a first check; cells are tested again for internal resistance and self-discharge later, as the cell measurement page explains.

Questions that change the purchase
| Decision | What the catalogue says | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Does your tab design suit the machine? | The catalogue promotes 4680 tabless use and allows at most two tabs per electrode. | Get a scope statement against your drawing and an edge and tab demonstration. |
| Do your rolls meet the feed limits? | The catalogue sets limits for slit width, telescoping and camber. | Check sample rolls and agree incoming acceptance before the winding trial. |
| What output passes inspection? | The catalogue lists short-circuit testing but no cycle time or yield. | Set core geometry, electrical checks, reject records and a sustained output target. |
Equipment questions
Can I work out cells per minute from the catalogue?
Not yet. TOB gives no cycle time or accepted output. Electrode length, roll quality, taping and inspection all change the cycle. Ask for a recorded run of your core design with agreed reject criteria, and base your output figure on that.
