SF120 manual hydraulic coin-cell crimper

The TMAX SF120 is a hand-operated hydraulic crimper for sealing coin cells in the laboratory. It comes with a die for CR2032, CR2025 and CR2016, uses a PTFE core to reduce short circuits during crimping, and weighs 25 kg, compact enough for many gloveboxes. Other case sizes take optional dies.

Steel frame, PTFE core and the dies in the box

TMAX builds the SF120 on a steel frame with a PTFE core that helps prevent short circuits while crimping. The included die covers CR2032, CR2025 and CR2016. CR2325, CR2450, AG3, AG5 and other sizes need optional dies. Ask for the exact die list and send your case drawing so you know what arrives in the crate.

The crimper measures 223 × 170 × 325 mm and weighs 25 kg net. TMAX gives two load figures: an 8-metric-ton maximum for the hydraulic pump and a maximum of 200 kg/cm² for CR20XX cells. These describe different quantities. Ask the supplier which one applies at the die face and what sealing load suits your case.

BUYER NOTES

How long the pump holds pressure

An application note says the small built-in pump is not made to hold high pressure, and that pressure slowly drops after reaching 50–80 kg/cm². The same note calls that range enough for taking coin cells apart, although this model is sold as a crimper. Ask the supplier to explain how the note applies to crimping with your model and die.

Request the recommended crimping steps and the gauge reading to expect during the stroke with your die. Build your recipe on that procedure. If your process needs a dwell at load or repeated strokes, ask for a demonstration that shows how the pressure behaves.

BUYER NOTES

Checking sealed cells and fitting the press in the box

Send your case, gasket and electrode-stack sizes for a sample run. Check case deformation, finished height and a seal or leak test after handling. Record the die, the gauge reading and the steps used, because cases from different makers can respond differently to one die setting.

For glovebox work, check the entry size, how the press will be lifted in, how it is mounted and the room needed for the handle and for loading cells. Agree cleaning steps that suit your electrolyte, and order spare dies and PTFE parts with the supplier. TMAX states CE marking on the page; ask for the matching declaration and its scope.

Crimped coin cells are usually cycled on a small multi-channel tester, and the battery tester page explains how to choose its current ranges.

Equipment questions

Are all of the listed coin sizes included?

No. The CR20-series die is included and the other sizes are optional sets. Ask for an itemised list of the dies in your order, especially if the lab will switch between formats. Each extra size should appear as its own line in the quotation.
