TMAX-MRX300 intermittent electrode web coater

TMAX-MRX300 is a compact reverse-comma transfer coater for cathode and anode webs, running continuous or intermittent patterns up to 300 mm wide. TMAX lists 20–200 µm dry thickness and a 710 mm drying oven at up to 150°C. It fits pilot electrode trials and small-roll runs on 380 V power.

Transfer coating and intermittent patterns

TMAX gives a maximum coating width of 300 mm and a dry thickness of 20–200 µm, depending on the material. It lists thickness tolerances of ±3 µm in the centre and ±5 µm at the edges. Ask how these were measured, then set your own targets for your formulation and settings.

Intermittent coating brings extra pattern needs: coated length, uncoated gap, clean start and stop edges, and registration. Ask which settings control each one and how the first and last patches behave after a pause or a slurry change. The feed uses an SS316 stirring rod. If your slurry is abrasive or settles, ask how it stays uniform over a full roll.

BUYER NOTES

Speed units and oven capacity

The speed entry reads 0–300 mm/min. Whether the unit is per minute or per second changes oven residence time and output a great deal. Ask TMAX to confirm the speed for the quoted MRX300 in writing, then ask for a coating and drying run at the speed you need.

The oven is 710 mm long, reaches 150°C and carries a ±2.5°C temperature figure. How much solvent it removes depends on your loading and speed. Ask for the zone layout, airflow, exhaust capacity and what the ±2.5°C refers to. TMAX's 600 m roll example applies to one foil and coating condition, so ask for the roll length that matches your own foil and coat.

BUYER NOTES

Power, air, rolls and floor space

The coater needs 380 V AC, 10 kW and a 30 A breaker, plus a 0.5–0.8 MPa compressed-air line from your own supply. Rolls sit on a 75 mm inside-diameter core with up to 300 mm outer diameter. Check web routing, core tooling, roll weight, changeover access and the electrical standard in your region.

The table gives 1650 × 1250 × 1200 mm. The introduction says the footprint is under 6 × 3 ft, which is narrower than the listed 1250 mm. Plan from an approved installation drawing. The exhaust outlet is 127 mm outside diameter; design solvent extraction and process safety to suit your solvent.

Equipment questions

What should a pilot acceptance run measure?

Run your own foil, slurry and pattern. Record the stable working speed, coated and uncoated lengths, dry loading across the width, edge defects, residual solvent, web tracking and the waste at each start and stop. A demonstration on someone else's material gives a feel for the machine; your own run sets the acceptance numbers.

Still to confirm

  • The speed unit and working speed for the quoted MRX300.
  • The approved footprint, since the introduction and the table give different sizes.
  • Thickness tolerance, drying capacity and intermittent registration on your own slurry and foil.
