Gelon small-batch planetary and high-shear slurry mixer

Gelon's small-batch mixer kneads electrode slurry with low-clearance planetary blades and disperses it with serrated discs on a high-speed shaft. It comes in 2 L and 5 L effective volumes, with main shaft speed up to 65 rpm, mixing speed up to 105 rpm and dispersing speed up to 3000 rpm on 1.85 kW. It suits pilot slurry batches.

Two motions and three speeds

Gelon describes low-clearance double mixing that kneads the batch in cycles, with serrated discs giving high-speed shear and dispersion. Effective volumes are 2 L and 5 L. Main shaft speed adjusts from 0 to 65 rpm, mixing speed from 0 to 105 rpm and dispersing speed from 0 to 3000 rpm. Power is 1.85 kW on 380 V/50 Hz three-phase supply.

The table does not say which of the first two speeds is revolution and which is rotation, so ask for a shaft diagram before writing a recipe. Design volume, minimum fill, torque, vacuum, cooling and wetted materials are not listed. Ask directly whether vacuum is available on this model.

BUYER NOTES

Testing uniformity and settling

Gelon describes full dispersion, uniform mixing and no sedimentation, without a sampling method, particle data or time period. Describe the chemistry, solvent, solids, the order of additions and how you measure viscosity, and agree the measurements that accept a batch.

Run both motions at your fill and material state, logging temperature and your mixing endpoint. Find your own best disperser speed, which may sit well below 3000 rpm. Ask how heat and load change the usable speed and torque range, and test bubble removal on your slurry.

BUYER NOTES

Discharge and cleaning count too

Low clearance reduces build-up, and some material will still cling to the vessel and tools. Define how much of a batch you expect to recover, how it is discharged and what clean means for your chemistry. Ask for compatible surfaces and seals and for access to the discs and vessel corners, none of which are listed.

Time a full batch through loading, mixing, sampling, discharge and cleaning, for both sizes if you are choosing between them. At handover, record the vessel, the three speed controls, the allowed operating window and a repeatable recipe with material results the next operator can check during acceptance.

The slurry is normally judged on a coated sample, as the coating-width guide explains, and larger batches move to the Gelon large double-planetary family.
