Gelon GN-MR-200H heated wedge-gap laboratory calender

The Gelon GN-MR-200H is a motor-driven laboratory calender with hard-chrome rolls 96 mm in diameter, a 195 mm working width and a wedge-block gap from 0 to 1.2 mm. The rolls heat to 100°C, with 60–80°C recommended, and run forward or reverse. It suits pressing electrode sheets in a lab or inside an argon glovebox.

Rolls, gap and heating

The rolls are 96 mm in diameter with a 200 mm face, of which 195 mm is usable. The gap adjusts from 0 to 1.2 mm with a stated adjustment accuracy of 0.01 mm. A wedge block sets the gap, gears drive the rolls, and a variable-speed motor runs them forward or reverse. Guide plates sit at entry and exit. Rolling speed and rated force are not given in numbers.

Gelon recommends 60–80°C on the upper and lower rolls, with 100°C as the maximum; your formulation sets the working value. Power is 2200 W on a choice of AC220 V/50 Hz or 110 V/60 Hz. The unit measures about 830 ×260 ×415 mm with the dial indicator and weighs about 94 kg net. Ask where the temperature sensors sit and how even the roll heating is.

BUYER NOTES

From gap setting to finished sheet

Send the collector, coating, incoming thickness and target density or porosity along with the finished thickness. Ask how the dial and wedge are calibrated and whether the gap is checked under load. Roll deflection and springback of the material mean the sheet can come out thicker than the gap, and Gelon gives no measured results on pressed electrode.

Agree sampling across the width and along the sheet after heated pressing. Check adhesion, surface and edges against your limits. Treat the 0.01 mm figure as the step size of the gap setting and measure the sheet itself. For forward and reverse rolling, write a recipe that fixes the number of passes and their direction.

BUYER NOTES

Fitting it into a glovebox

Gelon says the motor-driven unit suits an argon atmosphere and can go inside a glovebox of matching size. The glovebox, gas purification and heat removal are separate purchases. Approve the support, transfer and access, and maintenance layout for a machine of about 94 kg, with room for the indicator and guide plates.

Press sample sheets during a trial, make a controlled stop and go through the supplier's operating and guarding procedure. Request the speed, force and utility figures for your material. Handover should record calibration, the chosen heating settings and accepted sample sheets. This is a sheet-fed lab press, so judge it against other lab presses before comparing it with a continuous hydraulic line.

Pressed sheets are usually vacuum-dried before assembly, as the electrode drying page explains.
