AOT XHT-5539L vertical intermittent electrode coater

The AOT XHT-5539L is an intermittent electrode coater with a 15 m oven. It takes aluminium foil 300–520 mm wide and copper foil 300–502 mm wide, slurry of 1500–15000 cP, and coats at up to 10 m/min against a 15 m/min mechanical speed. AOT publishes detailed tolerances for segments, gaps and overlay.

Foil and slurry limits

AOT lists aluminium foil 0.010–0.030 mm thick and 300–520 mm wide, and copper foil 0.006–0.030 mm thick and 300–502 mm wide. Rolls run on a 3-inch core, with unwinding and rewinding diameters up to 500 mm. The two foils have their own envelopes, so check your web width against the right one and ask for roller and coating drawings for your foil.

Slurry viscosity runs 1500–15000 cP, kept moving in a stirred tank after mixing. Dry single-side coating is 50–150 µm excluding substrate, and wet coating 100–300 µm depending on viscosity. AOT names several cathode systems and graphite-based anodes, and notes that chemistry affects drying and speed. Give AOT your slurry solids content, viscosity method and material, and expect throughput to differ by chemistry.

BUYER NOTES

Tolerances for the centre, head and tail

The ±2 µm single-side and ±3 µm double-side dry-thickness figures cover the central area, excluding edges and the 8 mm head and tail regions. The head tolerance is −10 to +5 µm and the tail −15 to 0 µm. The ±1.5% single-side coat-weight figure follows a measuring method shown as Figure B; agree that method in your acceptance procedure, and quote the centre figures together with the head and tail limits.

The shortest coated length is 15 mm. The shortest piece with one segment and a gap is 50 mm, or 100 mm with two segments and a gap. A 5 mm gap is possible only up to 8 m/min. Length tolerance is ±0.5 mm within 800 mm, front-to-back and edge overlay are each ±0.5 mm, and rewinding alignment is ±0.5 mm at a 400 mm roll diameter. Trial your own pattern at your speed and roll size.

BUYER NOTES

The 50 mm roll-width entry and the oven

The same table gives a coating-roll width of 50 mm, while the foil range runs from about 300 to 520 mm. Ask AOT to confirm in writing the roller face width and coated width, and to sign a general arrangement drawing. The product photo cannot settle the usable width.

The oven is 15 m long and the whole machine up to 22 m. Coating speed reaches 10 m/min, with normal speed set by the material system, film thickness and solids content; mechanical speed is 15 m/min. Ask for the heating zones, solvent exhaust, energy use and any recovery package. Compressed air must be dry, clean and at least 0.6 MPa. Plan the line on residual solvent and dried electrode yield measured during drying trials.
