ACEY three-roll transfer electrode coater with three-zone oven
This ACEY roll-to-roll coater applies electrode slurry by three-roll transfer with comma metering, then dries it in three 1.5 m hot-air oven zones. The roller face is 400 mm, coating width at least 330 mm, and it runs continuous or intermittent patterns on 8–30 µm aluminium or copper foil.
Roller face, coating width and film thickness
ACEY lists a 400 mm roller face and a coating width of at least 330 mm. Plan your electrode around the coating width, since the roller is wider than the area it can coat. Foil can be aluminium or copper from 8 to 30 µm, and single-side dry coating thickness runs from 30 to 200 µm. Ask for the edge margins, the foil width and the usable coating area of the configuration you buy.
ACEY describes continuous and intermittent coating, a comma metering head and web edge correction. In intermittent mode the page lists coated pieces up to 10000 mm and blank gaps of 8–120 mm. Send your repeat pattern and tab gaps, and ask for samples that show the start and stop edges and the front-to-back registration you need.

Line speed and dry electrode output
The oven has three 1.5 m sections with separate temperature control, electric heating and hot air blown from above and below. Maximum design temperature is 150°C, with a stated spread of ≤5°C inside one oven. Mechanical speed is given as at least 4.5 m/min. How fast your electrode actually dries depends on coat weight and solvent, so set the speed from a trial.
ACEY names NMP and water-based slurries and offers solvent recovery as an option. Ask for the airflow, exhaust and solvent-handling scope for your process. The table mixes water, H2O and NMP wording in its solvent rows, so ask ACEY to correct them. Agree a residual-solvent limit and an oven temperature profile using your own foil and slurry.

Turning the tolerances into an acceptance test
The page gives thickness tolerances of ±3 µm at the centre and ±5 µm at the edge, and ±1% coating weight on double-sided coating. It names no sampling method or test slurry. It also lists a viscosity range of 2000–12000 mPa·s and solids of 20–85%. Agree the viscosity method, wet coat weight, drying settings and sample positions before comparing a trial with those figures.
Web tension is constant across 0–80 N, and rewind edge correction is ±0.5 mm. Ask for stable tracking, front-to-back alignment and pattern measurements through roll start, pauses and roll end. The machine is about 7100 × 1210 × 1810 mm and weighs 2 tonnes. Ask for a final layout drawing that shows the power supply and exhaust connections.

Questions that change the purchase
| Decision | What the catalogue says | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| What electrode width and pattern are qualified? | The page lists a 400 mm roller face, at least 330 mm coating width, and pieces up to 10000 mm with 8–120 mm gaps. | Approve the web path and trial your pattern with edge margins. |
| What is the accepted drying speed? | The page gives at least 4.5 m/min mechanical speed and 150°C maximum oven temperature. | Measure residual solvent and coat weight at the agreed speed. |
| How are tolerances assessed? | The page lists ±3/±5 µm thickness and ±1% coating weight without a sampling method. | Agree sampling, measurement conditions and the front/back coating route. |
Equipment questions
Does the machine coat both sides in one pass?
The table mentions front-to-back alignment and double-sided coating weight, while the description leaves the coating route open. Ask ACEY for the web-path drawing and whether the second side needs a second pass or extra equipment. Settle this before you plan line output.
