Single-sided extrusion coating machine

JRS's single-sided extrusion coating machine uses a slot die to coat electrodes up to 850 mm wide. Ovens run from 18–80 m and top speed is 70 m/min, depending on slurry and oven length. Heating can be electric, steam, thermal oil or natural gas.

Width, oven and speed

JRS's page lists slot-die coating, a maximum coating width of 850 mm, oven options from 18–80 m and a maximum speed of 70 m/min that depends on slurry and oven length. Heating can be electric, steam, thermal oil or natural gas. Look at the proposed dryer and your recipe together, because the shortest oven and the top speed may not work as a pair.

The catalogue also gives ±1% coating-weight accuracy, ±0.5 mm front-to-back alignment and an oven temperature of 150 °C ±3 °C, and says the delivered machine sets the final values. Ask for the web path and how front-to-back registration is measured on the single-sided configuration you are quoted.

Coat-weight gauges, CCD dimensional and defect inspection, coding, dust enclosures, insulating-glue coating and waste-heat recovery are all options. Have each one you want listed in the quote.

BUYER NOTES

The inspection package and the accepted roll

Send your slurry, foil, loading, pattern and drying endpoint. Ask for the die brand, dryer length, heating source and inspection modules chosen. Agree how start, stop and roll-change zones enter the sampling plan, especially if nonstop roll changing is offered.

For software, ask which measured values and defect positions are stored and passed downstream. Get the data fields for this coater in writing; the bus system named in the catalogue and JRS's separate platform project do not define them.

BUYER NOTES

Tie the speed proposal to a defined oven

Turn the oven range into a drawing of the chosen zones, web path, service connections and maintenance access. Ask for the heat and exhaust duty needed for your coating recipe, and have your site engineers check the installation provisions. Oven length and motion speed on their own do not tell you where drying ends, so set that endpoint in the trial.

In a trial run with JRS's agreement, label each sample with coating weight, web position, oven settings and residual-solvent or other agreed drying results. Count usable coated material apart from start-up, splice and stop losses. Ask which adjustments are needed when the recipe or coating weight changes and how the new setting is approved. Keep these conditions attached to the accepted speed in any comparison with another coater.

Equipment questions

Can 70 m/min be accepted with any oven length?

No. JRS ties speed to slurry and oven length. Ask for a process specification that matches your recipe and confirm it in a loaded trial.

Is heat recovery standard?

No, it is listed as an option. Ask for its equipment, how its effect is measured and the expected result as a separate item in the quote.
