18650 voltage and internal-resistance cell sorter

Honsenze's 18650 cell sorter measures the voltage and internal resistance of incoming cylindrical cells and drops each one into a set group ready for PACK assembly. A PLC runs the handling and a PC collects the tester's data. Capacity testing happens on a separate machine upstream.

Handling and measurement are separate jobs

Honsenze describes a PLC that feeds incoming cells, moves them and collects them into groups, while a PC pulls readings from the battery test instrument. The frame is sheet metal on aluminium profile, sits on castors and carries an alarm and cut-off system.

The listed tests are voltage and internal resistance on 18650 cylindrical cells. The page also talks about setting sorting rules after capacity grading, which is done on a charge/discharge machine before cells reach the sorter. Ask for a system drawing that shows the tester, the handling unit and any capacity-grading machine as separate items.

BUYER NOTES

Test where each bin starts and ends

Write the sorting limits down and state which bin takes a cell sitting exactly on a limit. In a witnessed trial, feed a known low-voltage cell, a high-resistance cell and one cell at each limit. Check that the cell lands in the right slot and that the log shows the same result.

Ask what the machine does when a probe misses contact, a reading times out or a bin is full. Any cell without a reliable reading should go to a reject position. Get the number of bins, the reject positions and the recovery steps from Honsenze in writing, since the product page does not list them.

BUYER NOTES

Keep contact and cell identity under control

Ask for the tester model, the resistance method, the probe layout and the calibration routine. For repeatability, measure the same marked cells in more than one station position, and again after the usual probe cleaning. Agree how much spread you accept for a cell close to a bin limit.

When packs are built from these groups, decide how each cell keeps its identity: a tray number, a code on the cell or another written transfer record. Ask for a sample data file with timestamps, readings, bin and instrument status. The page mentions PC data collection; MES links and full pack genealogy need their own specification.

Honsenze's profile lists the spot-welding and insulation stations that come after sorting in its pack line.

Questions that change the purchase

DecisionWhat the catalogue saysNext step
Does the fixture match your incoming cells? The page names 18650 and gives no wider list of cells.Send the exact cell drawing, terminal shape and surface finish and get the fixture confirmed.
Can the bins be checked?Sorting rules are set by the user; bin count and limit handling are not listed.Agree limits and reject routing, then run cells sitting on each limit.
Will each pack keep a usable test record? The page describes PC data collection with no export or MES format.Look at a real data file and the cell-to-tray or cell-to-pack link.

Equipment questions

Do matched voltage and resistance mean matched capacity?

Not by themselves. Honsenze's sorter page shows no charge/discharge capacity sequence. If you group cells by capacity or self-discharge, name the test that measures it and explain how its result follows each cell into the sorter.
